About The SiteWhyYouLost.com was created in reaction to the 2004 United States presidential election results, and the resulting reaction to it. The original essay was originally the only part of the web site. Since then the site has gotten a good deal of feedback, and based upon it this site is being expanded. I feel there is more work to be done here than what is represented in that original essay. The divisiveness in this country is in my opinion unnecessary, and I believe that if we can come to an understanding of the reasons causing it, we can work towards a solution more foundational than focusing all of our energies on fighting for the same political offices over and over again.
NewsNovember 15, 2004: The new version of the site is up. I wish all of the web sites that I made didn't all look the same, but I never manage to get around to learning any more tricks. Maybe someday. In the meantime, I'd like to talk about where I'd like this site to go. It occured to me that if I'm going to be talking about how we need to talk to each other that I need to do something to make this a reality. So that's what I'd like to do. I'd like to create an online area for people of different political backgrounds to come together and work out their differences. If any of you are familiar with the show "Babylon 5", then think of what I want to do as an electronic equivalent of that station. Now the obvious and fair question comes: "Well nice thought, but there are a million other forums where we can do this. What will make this different?" My answer probably won't sound too convincing, but I think this can be different. In a nutshell, the goal of this forum will not just be discussion. It will be solutions, some answer that will break us out of this cycle. So this area will have a specific goal, and I will make sure that this goal is not interfered with. I've been on the net for a very long time, and at this point have a good understanding of how to run an electronic community. I could go into more detail, but I think no words that I give here will convince as much as taking part in it. And really, what other options do we have? The way I see it, we have more to lose by not trying. So I'd like to set this up soon, and the only thing preventing me from doing it immediately is that I haven't had chance to examine my options. I've spent the last year and a half with LiveJournal and I really like their format. If no one has any objections and no one offers me a more conducive alternative then that's what I'm going to go with. If you are interested in this (and I really hope people are), then drop me an email letting me know, and when it is setup I'll contact you. |
